The prophet Jeremiah had enemies, people who didn't like Jeremiah. Some of these enemies wanted to kill Jeremiah. How many of us in this church have enemies, it's a reality of life.
There are people who don't like you. And Jeremiah was really frustrated at them. And Jeremiah went so far as to ask God to deal with his enemies, to take vengeance on his enemies. How many of you would like God to take vengeance on your enemies? God is not going to do that today. God will not take vengeance on your enemies. Jeremiah of course belongs to the Old Testament. He never met Jesus. Jesus is our model of behaviour. And no matter what your enemies did to you, they did not crucify you.
Do you know what he said on the cross after they crucified him about his enemies? He said, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do." In his lifetime, do you know what he spoke about concerning enemies? He said, "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. We should pray for our enemies. That's what we should be doing. Pray for them. Don't ask. God to take vengeance on them because it will never happen.
God can though protect you against evil in various ways.
