Evidence for an historical Jesus of Nazareth

Hi everyone, most historians think that Jesus was as a historical figure that had a life and death even if they do not think that he existed as a religious figure. This article is about Jesus as an historical figure. I to believe in the biblical Jesus, but that has been posted about already on this blog.

Evidence from history about Jesus comes from a variety of sources. One is from Apostle Paul’s writings. Paul never met Jesus on earth. Paul had an encounter with Jesus though on the Road to Damascus when Jesus spoke to him why he is persecuting his people in (Acts 9) and this led to Paul’s conversion from Judaism to Christianity in about (34 AD) he began his life as an apostle for Christanity. Paul to had rhe gift of the Holy Spirit and his writings was inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Paul’s earliest writings many historians agree were written roughly 15 to 20 years after the death of Jesus, (which is generally dated to around (AD 48–51). Paul wrote his first letter it is agreed by some historians around (49 AD) which was (1 Thessalonians). Other major religions texts were written at much later dates. There was those who were eye witnesses. to who met Jesus such as Mary Magdalene and Martha who were spoken to who got their accounts down whilst they were alive although they didn't write a gospel themselves.

The Gospels were written by Matthew, Mark Luke and John all reported to be within 35- 70 years of Jesus death so accounts in history of those who knew and loved him and met him existed. The Gospels were written to be targeted towards different audiences. These gospels were written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

There is also non Christian accounts by first/early second-century sources—notably Josephus ( AD 93–94) and Tacitus ( AD 116) which provide historical evidence of Jesus of Nazareth life, confirming his existence, ministry, and execution under Pontius Pilate outside of the New Testament narratives.

The Dead Sea Scrolls provide more insight into the society that Jesus would live and showed how Christanity emerged from Judaism and some key concepts like baptism, and God having a Son and the messanic prophies noted that there would be a suffering servant  in the scripture. The Dead Sea Scrolls didn't mention the name of Jesus directly, but they mentioned other names that he is known by such as Immanuel. The Dead Sea Scolls were found in caves south of Jericho. The Dead Sea Scrolls was discovered between 1946 and 1956 in 11 caves near Qumran on the Dead Sea's north western shore. The Dead Sea Scrolls are dated from the 3rd century BCE to the 1st century CE. They include the oldest known copies of the Hebrew Bible (excluding Esther). The Dead Sea scrolls contain (Isaiah and Samuel ) prophecy which is about Jesus Christ life to come. The Dead Sea are and contain Biblical evidence the period of time between the end of the Old Testament and the beginning of the New Testament.
